室內水龍頭：通常裝在浴室、洗衣間或是廚房。圖中的德國水龍頭是單把手兩支水龍頭（一支出熱水一支出冷h水）。大多數的現代北美的水龍頭只有一支出水口而混合冷熱水而可以供應出溫水。
水龍頭是一個控制水的流止的閥門。英國盥洗盆或是浴缸的水龍頭通常是冷、熱分離的兩端。在美國以及其他國家，大多是混合式水龍頭。後者是在冷、熱水混和後才出水，因此可以控制不同的溫度來用水。而水龍頭主要原料為銅與鋅合金。
如果單獨安裝水龍頭，自來水不一定是熱的或是冷的。通常熱的水龍頭一般有一個紅色指示燈或是符號，而冷水龍頭一般有一個藍色或綠色指示燈或是符號。在英語為母語的國家，水龍頭也經常標有一個“H”或“C”代表熱或冷。
大多數住宅房、商業和工業屋門前都有個水龍頭[哪裡？]，他們都配有一個內孔為四角型的開關，以免路人亂用水。
