The 2032 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXV Olympiad, are a forthcoming international multi-sport event. The winning bid is to be announced in 2025 at the 140th IOC Session.

Potential bids under consideration

Africa

• 
  Cairo, Egypt^[1]
  

Egypt has set a goal that they want to bid to host the 2032 Games and the FIFA World Cup in 2030, however they have not yet officially stated that they will bid.

• 
  Accra, Ghana^[2]
  

Benson T. Baba, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), announced that Ghana will be bidding for the 2032 Olympics. However, this was stated in early 2005, and there is no latest news on whether they will be bidding or not. The nation will celebrate its 75th anniversary.

  Johannesburg, South Africa ^[3]
  

South Africa has said that they will be bidding for the 2032 Games, the second time that a South African city has bid for the Olympics, with Cape Town bidding for the 2004 Summer Olympics which eventually took place in Athens, Greece.^[4]Johannesburg was one of the host cities that hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and hosted the tournament's Final.

Asia

During a meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach, IOA President Narinder Batra expressed India's interest in hosting the 2032 Summer Olympics. Bach on response said India has the ability to host the event but advised to wait until the bidding procedure starts. He also stated that Mumbai could be "named as a possible candidate for the 2032 Games".^[7] India has previously hosted the 1951 and the 1982 Asian Games, and the 2010 Commonwealth Games, all being held in Delhi. India has also expressed their interest in the 2026 Youth Summer Olympics and the 2030 Asian Games. India has already submitted their official interest to bid for the 2032 Games. Rajeev Mehta, Secretary-General of the IOA, said: "We are dead serious about this bid for the 2032 Olympics. So, we have already submitted to the IOC the letter expressing our interest in hosting 2032 Olympic Games".^[8] The national will celebrate its 85th anniversary.

  Jakarta, Indonesia^[9]
  

On 1 September 2018, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, announced in a meeting in Bogor with the presidents of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia that Indonesia will bid to host the 2032 Olympics following the major success of the 2018 Asian Games and Para Games.^[10] The IOC President Thomas Bach welcomed the candidacy of Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous nation, saying that the Asian Games provided a "strong foundation" for the country's 2032 bid. Executive Director of the IOC, Christophe Dubi, echoes the same statement as he, on behalf of the Committee, accepted the submission of the country's Letter of Intent from Muliaman D Hadad, Indonesian ambassador for Switzerland on 11 February 2019, according to the embassy's press release.^[11] On 19 February 2019, Indonesia made the 2032 Olympics bid official, as letters from President Joko Widodo and Indonesian Olympic Committee were delivered to the IOC in Lausanne.^[12][13] Should Indonesia elected to host the 2032 Olympics, it would become the first in Southeast Asia, the Equator, as well as the fourth Asian country to do so, after Japan, South Korea and China, the first Summer Olympic Games in the Muslim world and the second Olympic Games in the Muslim world (after Sarajevo 1984).^[14]

• Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore

Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, said Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, president of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), had earlier said that might have a joint bid for the 2032 Summer Olympics. The Malaysian sports administrator said that “I do see a joint bid between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in the future. Malaysia hosted the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore hosted the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics.^[15] Malaysia will celebrate its 75th anniversary.

North and South Korea announced that they will pursue a joint bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games in a statement released on 19 September 2018, following a summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in. It was reported that both of the countries will host a forum on the 2032 Summer Games on February 15, in Lausanne, Switzerland to discuss about it.^[17] They have released that the initial proposed cost of hosting the games would be at $3.44 billion.^[18] Seoul previously hosted the 1988 Summer Olympics and 1986 Asian Games. However WADA decides that North Korea is uncompliant in doping control. If this stance remains until 2023, the bid could collapse because WADA accepting is requirement for bidding or hosting an Olympic event and joint bid itself likely not move this situation.

  Shanghai-Hangzhou-Nanjing, People's Republic of China^[19]
  

China has shown interest in possibly bidding for the 2032 games. Luo Wenhua, Shanghai's deputy director general of sports, said that Shanghai aspires to be a "globally famous" sport city by 2025, and already hosts 160 events each year including a Formula One race, golf tournaments, Diamond League athletics, and Masters Tennis. However, they have not formally expressed that they will bid. Nanjing hosted the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics and Hangzhou will host the 2022 Asian Games as well as Para Games.

Europe

  Rhine-Ruhr, Germany (with sailing venue in Kiel, Germany)^[20]
  

Germany has planned to bid for the 2032 Games in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and has revealed a plan that to host in 13 different cities. The cities listed were Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Cologne, Bonn, Aachen, Duisburg, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Krefeld, Leverkusen, Mönchengladbach, Oberhausen and Recklinghausen. Over 80 percent of the venues are already available, including 16 stadiums which have more than 30,000 seats and even 24 large sports halls. This is also the first time a bid has taken place in so many cities.^[21] The nation will celebrate its 520th anniversary in its different forms and, the 60th anniversary of the last German Summer Games in Munich 1972.

Hungary has expressed their interest in bidding for the 2032 games, but have not officially stated that they will be bidding. Budapest previously bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics before withdrawing after a failed referendum.

  St. Petersburg, Kazan and Sochi, Russia ^[23]
  

It was stated by Governor Georgy Poltavchenko that St. Petersburg may apply for the Summer Olympics in 2032 or 2036.^[24] The country will celebrate their 1150th anniversary of its establishment as Kievan Rus in 882. Their biggest challenge is the accusation of state-sponsored doping.

Madrid could possibly bid for the 2032 games, but there has been no official statement. It would be the 40th anniversary of Barcelona 1992, the 50th anniversary for the first royal sport event (the 1982 FIFA World Cup), and politically, 220th anniversary of the First Constitution (Cádiz, 1812)

Officials working for the Government of the Netherlands have proposed to bid for the 2032 Summer Olympics. It remains uncertain as to whether a bid will actually take place.

  London, United Kingdom
  

In February 2019, the Mayor of London and UK sport expressed their interest in bidding for either the 2032 or 2036 Olympics. The mayor remarked that 2032 'was not out of the question' but 2036 is more likely. It is, however, unclear which year a bid will be made. London previously hosted the Olympics in 1908, 1948 and 2012 and has been successful in every bid submitted.^[27][28]

Oceania

  Brisbane, Australia^[29]
  

Former Vice-President of the IOC and current President of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) John Coates strongly supports a bid from Brisbane for the 2032 Summer Olympics.^[30][31] Following speculation, a feasibility study was also commissioned by the Southeast Queensland Council of Mayors with the outcome due back by the end of the year.^[32] Brisbane previously hosted the 1982 Commonwealth Games and South East Queensland hosted the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Brisbane also bid for the 1992 Summer Olympics but lost to Barcelona. Australia previously hosted the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne and 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

A 2019 feasibility study commissioned by South-East Queensland Council of Mayors back in 2016, and investigated by French company Lagardère on South East Queensland's eligibility to host the 2032 Olympic games concluded the region was capable of hosting the event, the study found that infrastructure and transport upgrades already needed would provide a financial return. The feasibility report notes that 60 per cent of the venues needed for such a bid already exist across the south-east, with others predicted to be constructed before 2032 in line with community needs. The document suggests Brisbane would be host of 21 Olympic venues, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast would both host 5 venues, with the remaining 7 venues to be hosted within the SEQ region. SEQ Mayors including Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk made emphasis on the need to make the games cost effective through reusing existing facilities and using the event as a catalyst for infrastructure and job creation.^[33][34]

The Committee for Melbourne supports a potential bid from Melbourne for the 2032 Summer Olympics.^[36] Melbourne previously hosted the 1956 Summer Olympics as well as 2006 Commonwealth Games; it had also unsuccessfully bid for the 1996 Summer Olympics, which were awarded to Atlanta in 1990.

South America

  Buenos Aires, Argentina
  

Buenos Aires bid to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. It was stated that the successful bid could lead to a bid for the 2032 Summer Olympic Games. The city also hosted the 125th IOC Session in 2013, the Olympism in Action Forum^[37] and the 133rd IOC Session, both events in 2018. Rio de Janeiro has staged the first Summer Olympic Game in South America in 2016. Buenos Aires could potentially be the second city on the continent to stage the event. Buenos Aires bid to host the 1936, 1956, 1968, and 2004 Summer Olympics, but lost to Berlin, Melbourne, Mexico City and Athens respectively.^[38] On 4 July 2013, Buenos Aires was elected as the host city of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.^[39]
