克伦族佔缅甸人口的百分之七到百分之十[2]，在缅甸是仅次于緬族和掸族的第三大种族[3]。缅甸官方承认的135个民族中有23个属于克倫族：
- 克伦族群的11个民族都属于克伦族，人数较多的有斯高克伦族和波克伦族；
- 克耶族群的9个民族都属于克伦族，如克耶族（红克伦族，克倫尼族）；
- 掸族群的33个民族有3个属于克伦族，如巴奥族（黑克伦族）。缅甸与湄宏顺的长颈族也是克倫人。
泰国的克伦族主要是斯高克伦和波克伦。
多數克倫族信仰上座部佛教和萬物有靈，少數信基督教。
